A lot of equipment was developed at a time when fossil fuels were the norm. The equipment is not yet end-of-life and deserves a second chance, but it needs to be made more sustainable. Think of the conversion from diesel to electric. Or – in case there is no electricity available – the addition of batteries. Strukton Power has the electrical engineering knowledge to engineer and carry out such conversions. For example, we developed the battery locomotive for Strukton Rail.
The Click & Go Energy bank is a substation that strengthens the power supply of trams on the existing rail network. No connection to the electricity grid is required. The Energy bank stores the power via the overhead wires, and supplies that electricity to passing trams. This unplugged substation can be used in a flexible way and can be quickly connected to the overhead line. As a structural reinforcement of the energy supply or as a temporary energy boost during diversions and events – ‘click & go’. The electrical engineers at Strukton Power did the entire engineering for the Energy bank and delivered the first one to the RET in Rotterdam.
