‘There is a great future in digitalisation, just like Strukton Power still has a great future ahead of it.’

‘I studied mechanical engineering in Zwolle in the Netherlands. At Strukton Power I am increasingly focusing on digitalisation in all of its aspects. Processes, software and training, you name it. To give you a concrete example. One of our biggest clients, TenneT, wanted to engage us in an open format contract as part of what they refer to as a ‘partner ecosystem’. The nice thing is that in such a system you all adopt the same way of working. Of course this means you must adjust your organisation accordingly. As TenneT’s point of contact I am responsible for maintaining calm within the process so as to enable us to make the necessary adjustments and optimally adopt the new system. This is a continuous process because there are new techniques all the time and other kinds of data that can be added to the process.’

“There is so much specific knowledge in our company. We can do any type of project in the energy transition.”

‘And then there is the VR headset. Using the VR headset we produced a virtual safety walk through a high voltage substation while it was still in the design phase for TenneT. The idea was that we would literally take end users through the substation as specified in the design. That provided relevant insights. They were able to immediately identify the things that would or would not work well and we were able to make important adjustments to the design on this basis. In fact you can use the VR headset for any project that can be designed in 3D. We even won a tender with the VR headset for Twence, a waste processing company in the Twente region in the Netherlands. We had submitted a bid for a high-voltage facility to be installed there. The tender also included a model. We processed this model and incorporated it into the VR headset and when we presented our plan, the client was able to walk through its own model. The client also observed several things that needed to be done differently. This is of tremendous value. It immediately gets the discussion going, because you literally see what you are going to end up with.’

‘There is a great future in digitalisation, just like Strukton Power still has a great future ahead of it. We still have lots of options. From my perspective, there is especially much potential in even greater collaboration between the various disciplines in our company. We have so much specific knowledge. In my view we can do any type of project in the energy transition.’
