‘An innovative culture that suits me very well.’

‘If you are someone who likes to work in a perfectly organised environment where everything is nicely structured, Strukton Power may not quite be the right place for you. You are given a lot of responsibility here and you therefore also have a lot of freedom. The freedom to approach things in your own way, albeit naturally in consultation with your colleagues and within the assignment’s boundaries. This helps create an innovative culture and that suits me very well. I am a software engineer and I have worked for what is now known as Strukton Power for the past 10 years.’

‘I primarily develop software for Windows applications, as well as embedded software, for example for computers that are installed in trains. We do a lot of railway-related things here. For example, we have a data logger that monitors the current of the motors used to move switches. For example, this enables us to detect when a switch does not move as smoothly or when something is malfunctioning. We then take action by sending out a technician before the switch completely breaks down. Preventive action, in other words. This is very important, because it is extremely annoying when a switch suddenly fails, as this can result in high costs and a major impact on operations.

‘Feeling of pride.’

But we also work with wireless sensors that are suspended along the railway to measure the temperature of the rails. This is very useful in winter when the switches must be heated. When snow gets into a switch and it then freezes stuck, we have a problem. Furthermore, we are increasingly more involved in the energy transition and we are also going to use our data loggers in a TenneT project to monitor current.’

What I really like is that we develop all of our hardware and software in-house. When you are able to bring a fully in-house developed product to market, that gives you a feeling of pride. It is a lot of fun and extremely instructive when you can do this with colleagues.’

‘Despite the fact that I have been working here for 10 years, I still enjoy my work. I also enjoy working with my colleagues. Sometimes it feels like one big family. There also are more than enough challenges for me here at Strukton Power. People regularly ask for this internally as well. And should you wish to do something else, this is also encouraged and facilitated.’
